Emmanuel is a college deeply rooted in tradition.
Since its founding in 1919, the College has established many meaningful traditions, including Founders’ Day, a significant College event commemorating the founding of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur (SNDs) by St. Julie Billiart in 1804 and the founding of Emmanuel College by the SNDs in 1919. Other Emmanuel customs include the annual Christmas Tree Lighting on the Quad; the 100 Days Celebration, during which the Chapel bells ring 100 times, signifying 100 days until graduation; International Hospitality Night in the fall and the Clambake in the spring.
